Five YouTube Features You Should Be Using Right Now

Youtube app

Browsing videos on YouTube.

YouTube can keep you entertained while you are on the go. It is a great way to kill a couple minutes. Here is a list of features you probably are not using, but totally should.

  • Double tap to skip ahead. You do not need to scroll through the video’s progress bar to find that particular scene you are looking for. Plus, it can be difficult to get to the right spot in a video with the innate error of touchscreen devices. You want to move to 1:15, but you kept landing on 1:25. There is NO need to worry now because you can just double tap on the video to move forward by 10 seconds. This little-known feature can help get to a specific time frame and spend less time scrolling through the video. If you find that 10 seconds is not working for you, just go to the settings and change the skip time.
  • Background play. For the most part, we just use YouTube to search for a song that is stuck in our heads. We do not bother with the video part because we just need to listen to the audio. YouTube users had always wanted to get a background playback option. Finally, Google listened and it exists now. The downside is that it is part of the YouTube Red subscription. (For those who do not know, it is a paid streaming subscription service exclusively for YouTube in selected countries like the US, Australia, NZ, Mexico, and South Korea.)
If you have Red, you can take advantage of this feature. When you are logged in to your Red account, simply minimize the app by hitting the home button of your device when watching a video and the audio will continue playing in the background.
  • Limit mobile date usage. Watching YouTube videos can be fun, but it won’t be fun if you are already over the monthly mobile data capacity. Fortunately, you can now play videos and at the same time, consume less data. You just have to open the YouTube app settings and go to the General tab. At the top portion is a toggle to Limit mobile data usage. Turn that setting on, and YouTube will only stream in standard definition, and not HD.
  • View in Cardboard. If you are into Virtual Reality (VR), this feature is for you. YouTube already has a lot of 360-degree videos that are viewable on both desktop and mobile devices. All you need is a Google Cardboard. You just have to search for a 360-degree video and tap the cardboard icon in the lower right corner. This works too with other virtual reality headsets like HTC Vive, Samsung VR, LG Steam VR, and many more.
  • Download videos. Like the background playback option, downloading YouTube videos is only available on YouTube Red. If you have Red, you can now download videos for offline viewing. In order to download a video, tap the download button , which is under the video title. Then, the application will ask what quality level of the video you wish to download. Beside it, the total size of the video is displayed.

Email Tricks You Need to Know

computer

Not all emails are important, right? There is no need for you to constantly refresh your page and end up getting derailed by marketing emails. There are emails that need your immediate attention. Other instances, you get to send an incomplete email, or mistakenly hit that send button. So, here are a few tips and tricks that might just save your life. (Note that this guide only applies to GMail.)

  • Creating a filter. Yes, you can change your GMail settings and receive only emails from specific contacts. The first thing you need to do is to login to GMail’s web client and go to settings. Once you are there, you have to click on Filters and Blocked Addresses tab. After that, choose the Create a new filter option.

You can now set your preferred parameters for your desired filter. You can adjust the fields: the From, the To, the Subject, and so on. The greatest part is that you can set an attachment filter, whether you wish to receive emails with attachments or not. You can even set the attachment size of the emails too.

Once you are done setting the different fields, click Create filter with this search. Another set of options will appear, you can choose to Always mark it as important, send it to your Personal emails, and Never send it to Spam. That way when you get an email from someone very important, you will always get notified. You are certain that those emails will not go anywhere, and not get moved to spam.

Finally, click Create filter. This is really helpful since there are a lot of phishing scams, and not to mention, the spread of malwares through emails. Once you sync your GMail messages to your mobile app, you will only get messages with the specific label you created.

  • Unsend messages. We all have been there and done that. We have hastily sent an email without an attachment, or forwarded an email to the wrong person. We all can relate to that horrifying moment when you know you have already clicked Send and there is nothing you can do about it anymore. Fortunately, Gmail has now an Undo feature for emails. You can finally undo any email before it wreaks havoc.

Like the filter trick, you have to login to GMail’s web client first. You can only enable and disable this feature from the desktop version. Once you are logged in to your account, go to settings. On the General tab, focus your attention on the Undo Send option. Toggle the Enable Undo Send checkbox.

After that, choose a grace period of 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds depending to your liking. Select one of these options from the drop-down menu next to Send cancellation period. Do not forget to scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Save Changes button to apply the desired changes.

Once you have enabled the Undo Send feature, you will also be able to use it in the iOS Gmail app. It is not available in the Android Gmail app.

How to Be an Agency’s Dream SEO Client

Getting your website to rank higher in search engine results takes more than just hiring the best Search Engine Optimization (SEO) expert for you. It is also about helping the agency beyond paying them and giving them access to your website. It’s about being a good client. After all, a good working environment could boost the efficiency of work. Here’s what you need to do to become an SEO agency’s dream client and give your rankings the best chance of improvement.

Understand the Basics of SEO

No, this doesn’t mean that you should become an SEO expert. Simply, learning the basics of SEO and familiarizing yourself with how it works will enable you to understand its impacts on your business. This is also very efficient to both you and the agency’s part since they won’t have to spend time trying to educate you. Understanding the basics will help you get a grasp of the overall marketing strategy that will be put in place.

Create Realistic Goals

Before starting the marketing strategy, it is important first to set goals. However, you must make sure that these goals are realistic. The problem between SEOs and clients usually stem out from trying to meet unrealistic expectations. As a client, you must be fully aware of the competition that your website is facing, and the difficulty in ranking higher in a short space of time.

Be Involved with the Process

One misconception of clients who hire SEOs is that they can just sit back and watch the agency to do their magic. But the truth of the matter is that the whole process doesn’t work that way. It is very necessary, as a client, to be involved with the marketing efforts. Ranking top doesn’t happen within a day. It takes continued effort to do so. You have to make sure that your social media accounts are active, your post regularly on your blog, and your customers and potential customers are engaged. Ranking first not only relies on the performance of your SEO keywords, rather it takes into consideration many factors that make your site a good source of information and service.

Practice Trust and Patience

An agency’s dream SEO client functions with the right character. It is important that you know how to trust in the agency’s process and to be patient with it. Remember that success doesn’t happen immediately. There are so many foundations that need to be laid and built upon. So if you don’t trust the agency and demand fast results, then you are bound to be disappointed. Putting too much pressure on them will only leave you with a sloppy work ethic which is more harmful to your website.

Be Open to Ideas

Finally, to be a full-on dream client, you must be open-minded. You have to understand that you haven’t figured everything out yet and that there are far more knowledgeable people than you to help out. You should be able to entertain and give the agency’s ideas a chance. Be open to ideas and discuss them with the agency.

The importance of case studies and testimonials when choosing an SEO agency

Looking for an SEO agency that will help take your business to the next level? If you are, then you probably won’t be thrilled to hear that there are a thousand SEO agencies all promising to deliver the moon. Separating the best from the rest is tricky. Fortunately, there are things that you can do to make it easier. One way is to start by looking at case studies and testimonials as proof of the SEO agency’s track record and reliability.

Looking Into the Past to Foresee Your Business’s Future

Every good SEO company is built on the foundation of satisfied clients and trustworthy reputation. If they are indeed good, then they would be even more than willing to offer you a collection of case studies detailing their past success for numerous clients. Case studies will give you thorough information on the kind of company that you will be relying on to help your business succeed on the world wide web.

The case studies they provide should be comprehensive but easy enough for you to understand the kinds of core principles and strategies they used and how it helped position their client’s businesses toward search engine dominance. By taking a look at their past victories and campaigns, you will be able to see your business’s future in the hands of such an SEO agency.

Relying on Word of Mouth

Aside from relying on case studies provided by the SEO agency, testimonials from actual clients themselves is also a powerful tool to gauge the agency’s reliability and trustworthiness. It will give you an unbiased opinion on whether or not the agency helped their clients succeed in their business and also on the type of relationship they built with them.

Any agency worth their salt will be able to provide a list of client testimonials. Many will have a page dedicated to this on their website. There are companies, however, that try to filter comments and testimonials – omitting negative ones and leaving only the good ones. To get unbiased information, you may want to rely purely on review sites and forums by searching for them through Google, Yelp, or even Glassdoor (to check what their employees think about working for them).

Always Manually Check Past Work and Testimonials

Lastly, always manually check past work and testimonials when negotiating with SEO agencies. There are those who may provide you with amazing case studies and testimonials, but a quick manual verification of them shows that they’re fabricated. Always manually check the websites that they provide as case studies and the keywords that they said they ranked for them. This way, you will find out for yourself whether or not everything they promise you is legit or fake.

If you’re looking for a trustworthy SEO agency, we can put you in touch with a number of our previous clients. They will be more than happy to talk through our process and how it helped their business rank higher.

A Business Owner’s Guide to Keyword Research

One of the most basic elements of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the keyword. Keywords are the first thing that users type to look for websites in Google and Bing. Knowing what keywords your customers are using and optimizing your website for them is essential to rank highly and generate significant web traffic. Want your business to rank higher? The read this guide on how business owners can complete keyword research.

What is the user intent?

Before you use any tools to start looking for keywords, you have to understand how users are using your website. This will help you to sort through all of the keywords that you find to choose the most appropriate ones. So, do your users come to your website for:

  •    Knowledge – Are they coming for information?
  •    Research – Are they trying to find something specific?
  •    Purchase – Do they want to buy something?

Once you have identified why users visit your website, you should have an idea of the kind of keywords you need to look for. If you have a store, you obviously want buyer-focused keywords. If you offer reviews, you want research-based keywords.

Make A List

Once you know why people are coming to your website, you can start to make a keyword list. The keywords must reflect the most likely search queries of your target users and consumers. Here are ways to look for them:

  1. Use the Keyword Planner to find a huge number of potential keywords. While Google’s Keyword Planner is a PPC tool, it is a great way to find relevant keywords. Simply enter a starting keyword, such as running shoes, and then the tool will generate a list of relevant and related keywords.
  2. Brainstorm for keywords according to the concerns of your customers. One way is through boards and forums where people usually share information. Alternatively, you can simply ask your customers what they are searching for or how they found your business. Don’t forget to ask them their pain points as well.
  3. Google has an autosuggest and related feature in their search box. Use this by typing the start of one of your terms and look through the suggested phrases the search box offers. These suggested terms are usually the most common and popular keywords related to your user’s queries.

Picking Keywords (Long-tailed vs. short)

At this point, you probably have a long list of potential keywords. Of course, you can’t rank for them all. At least not yet. So now you have to choose ones to focus on. We recommend that you use long tail keywords than short. By long tail keywords, we mean keywords that are longer and more specific. So track running shoes for boys instead of running shoes. Picking longer keywords will more likely give you more targeted traffic and higher conversion rates. What’s more, longer tail keywords are known to account for around 70% of searches. They are also less competitive so it is easier to rank.

There you have it. Once you have completed these steps you should have a list of keywords that your customers use and that you can start using to optimize your website.

Five ways to ruin your local SEO and what to do about them

There are several common mistakes that people make in their local SEO campaigns that prevent them from enjoying a strong position in the search engines. Even if their onsite content and offsite links are pretty good and their social presence is solid, they still won’t get the results that they expect if they make mistakes with their local SEO. So you don’t share this fate, here are the biggest mistakes businesses make with local SEO and what to do about them.

1.) Several Different Names

A lot of businesses don’t have a uniform way of writing their name. Dentists, for example, may refer to the practitioner on some occasions. On others, they may refer to the practice name. Business owners may not think twice about doing so but it is a huge problem for Local SEO. To get the full benefit of your links and references online, your business needs to have the same name in every instance. Make sure that whenever you are submitting your business to directories in the future, only use one name.

2.) Wrong Location Details

You need to ensure that Google and other search engines understand where your business is located. Of course, if you have changed business address, you may have two or even three different addresses littered across the Internet. Google uses references to your NAP (Name, Address, Phone number) to rank your business. Google and other search engines will cross-reference your NAP information across a variety of websites as a way to validate if you are a legitimate business and not a spam site. If there is some form of inconsistency or discrepancy in your NAP, you won’t be considered an authority. The devil is in the details so take the necessary time and effort in verifying that your local listing is accurate on every publicly available location.

3.) Unclear Policies

Customer satisfaction is crucial if you want to maintain a solid reputation as a local name or authority. To succeed in this endeavor, you need have a clear staff training documentation or customer service policies, to enjoy positive feedback and reviews. Putting a strict but fair content policy on your website will also ensure that your forum, comments section, or onsite testimonials are free from spams and scams that can ruin your reputation.

4.) Weak Local Profile

A strong local profile that indicates your company or business’s direction, status, and quality is also a must. This includes filling out important details in local directories that would pertain to the number of years you have been in service, your mission statement, and some accurate pictures. This information is important if you want to enjoy better web visibility as well as authenticity. Internet users rely on local directories for various reasons, and if they don’t find enough information about your business, they will feel suspicious about your services.

5.) Lack of clarity

You should be able to clearly state to your customers what separates your business from the rest of the other options present. If you can’t convey this crucial message to your customers in a few powerful words, they won’t be able to help spread your name on the web. Word of mouth is important in Local SEO and if you don’t have a set of definitive words that describe your advantages as a business or service like you are “more affordable than the rest” or “deliver the fastest results”, it would be hard for you to carve out a strong position in the web.

What Are Backlinks and How Do They Work?

In the competitive world of Search Engine Optimization, it is important to know how to give your website an edge. One of the most effective ways to do this is through lots of high quality backlinks. Now if you are new to SEO, then you may be wondering what backlinks are and how they could affect your websites’ ranking. Fortunately, you have come to the right place. In this article, we will tell you everything you need to know about backlinks in order to get you to the top of the search engines:

What are backlinks?

Backlinks are links from other websites to yours. They are also called inbound links. They help to determine the popularity, relevance, and importance of your site. This is especially true with Google. The number of good quality backlinks associated with your site shows that your site contains reliable and useful information. The important thing to remember is that it’s not about having tons of backlinks but on having lots of high quality backlinks to your site instead. But before that, let us first discuss how backlinks work.

How do backlinks work in SEO?

One way that Google ranks sites in terms of relevancy for a specific keyword is the amount and quality of backlinks. It is important then to make sure that the sources of the backlinks relate to the content of your site. The higher the relevance of the backlink, the higher the quality of the backlink.

Aside from that, one of the most effective ways to acquire quality backlinks is through using respected and popular directories that Google recognizes as a good quality link. These directories include Yellow Pages, Bing, Microsoft, etc. All you have to do is sign up to be included in their directories.

Links aren’t just good for SEO. Quality inbound links can also be a great source of traffic. When people see a link to your site from another website they are currently visiting, they will be more likely to trust the website that they are going to.

Let’s develop things further. Here are the things you have to remember when trying to generate backlinks to improve SEO rankings:

  • Diversity of Domain Rank – What you don’t want to do is to create lots of very poor links. This would give you low domain rank diversity. Instead, by generating links naturally, through outreach, you should develop links from a diverse section of websites that have a wide variety of authority. Google is more likely to trust a diverse set of backlinks.
  • Links from different IPs – When building links it may be tempting to buy links or take part in a link wheel (a group of websites linking to each other). This can mean all of your links coming from one or two IPs. This looks unnatural to Google and they can punish your website as a result.
  • Diverse Anchor Text – Anchor text is the text that goes with the hyperlink. Usually, this will be “click here” or something like that, but it might be more descriptive. It is through anchor text that site visitors will find out what the site they are about to be redirected is about. As such, it is important to use keywords that are direct and easy to understand. Avoid using too many keywords since this may confuse and discourage users and is frowned upon by Google.

Laptop Features You Can Skip If You Are On a Budget

laptop

Buying a laptop.

There are many kinds of laptop in the market. In fact, we are flooded with laptops with amazing features. You may be bewildered by them, but one of the big factor we need to consider is your budget. If you just need a laptop for everyday tasks, you can pass on these features.

Here is the list of laptop luxuries you can skip:

  • Backlit Keyboard – Most laptops come standard with this kind of lighting. If you are the touch typist type, you do not need lighting to write in your keyboard. If you like games, then this will help you play in the dark. Yes, it is so cool, but not good for your eyesight, and totally unnecessary. Aside from this, you may have to pay extra.
  • Higher than 1080P screen – You can save money by not getting a laptop with a “full HD.” True, that a screen of a 3840 x 2160 (4K) resolution can give you sharp images, but if the display is small like 13 to 15 inches, the sharp resolution will not matter. This is only ideal if you have a bigger computer monitor. Pushing more pixels demands more electricity and will affect battery life on your laptop. You can allocate your battery to more important things.
  • Core i7 CPU – is needed for intensive tasks like transcoding videos or giant spreadsheet formulas. But if you are not doing that kind of job, there is no need to spend more. An Intel Core i5 processor balances price and performance.
  • Discrete Graphics – When all you do is research and browse the web, you can pass on high-end video cards. If you do not do professional-grade video editing, 3D modelling or play the current games, then you do not need this feature.
  • Infrared Camera/RealSense 3D – this feature works with Windows OS, and it is called Hello.  It logs you in your laptop via your facial recognition. It is nice but again, not a necessity.
  • Fingerprint Reader – it allows you to log in via Windows Hello. Putting your finger on a sensor is easier than typing your password. The latter is safer. Besides, Window 10 still needs to have a password.
  • Touch Screen on a Clamshell Laptop – if what you want is 2-in-1 that either flips back or detaches itself to become a tablet, a touch screen is necessary. But, on a standard clamshell laptop, it is not necessary. It also lessen the battery life span by a few hours and this may cost extra. (Read more on: why it is not a good buy.)
  • More than 256GB of Storage –Well, it is good to be able to multitask and launch app faster compared to a mechanical hard drive. However, based on the cost per gigabyte, SDD is more or less, 5 to 10 times more expensive as compared to hard drives. With the different services like the cloud storage, most people do not need more than 256 GB of storage.
  • 16 or more GB of RAM – Most people only need 8 GB unless you are a graphic designer, or a professional video editor. Also, it could be costly to configure your laptop to more than 8 GB.

Six Alternatives to PayPal

Dollars

Sending money online.

Paypal is popular when it comes to spending, receiving, and sending money online. It can transfer money, goods, or services and allows fund transfer from one person to another. While Paypal is the obvious choice by many, we can also look for other alternatives.

Here is the list of other alternatives:

  • Google Wallet is primarily used in the U.S. today but credits and debit cards coming from other countries. Simply tap to pay in-store with an NFC-enabled android device. There are also a handful of online businesses that accepts Google Wallet. This is strictly for merchants, which means you cannot send money but there are no chargeable fees.
  • Skrill (previously known as MoneyBookers) sends and receives money to its users with a debit or credit card. When sending and withdrawing funds from Skrill, each country is charged differently. Their focus is sending money in different currencies anywhere, which makes Skrill a close competitor to the popular Paypal.
  • If you are a seller and based in New Zealand or Australia, Paymate is a good choice to get money from buyers in other countries. The two countries can use Ebay Australia and Paymate on their website at a very minimal fee. You may not be able to send money to another user, but Paymate can be a good alternative when it comes to receiving payment.
  • Payza (also known as AlertPay) can send and receive money in 21 currencies and 190 plus countries. Although the service is mainly based in the U.S. and Canada, Payza supports certain banks and credit/debit card from countries they recognized. Additional funds can be done via credit card or bank transfer, request money by using invoices, and send money to other Payza users. To create an account with Payza is free but the other services of transferring has a minimal fee which can compete with PayPal. For online merchants, Payza has a good payment service. They will also help you in managing multiple businesses with just one account.
  • Payoneer is great when paying your online shopping. When you register you gain access to a prepaid MasterCard which will be delivered to where you are. Having an account is free and you are charged only when you activate the card. Through this, you can load money to your card that comes from other credit cards or banks. Activated card can be used in several countries using different currencies. This requires an annual fee. However, you can buy and withdraw money from a MasterCard
  • Stripe is PayPal’s biggest competitors charges a flat fee of only 2.9% and another 30c in every transaction you make. The set-up and use is easy, it has full payment integration, and bank transfers are fast. It has multiple payment options using multiple credit and debit cards. There is no other additional international fees.

There are more rising money transfer alternatives out there. It is good to check them out and try using their services. Who knows, you might end up with a much better deal!

Kinds of Batteries

blur, charging, close-upToday, despite the many new gadgets, laptops are very much used by people who moves around. People in sales and students needs the flexibility and freedom to do their school work anytime and just about anywhere. The problem is laptop batteries quickly lose its charge capacity, which leads to its replacement. The life span of a battery depending of course on how the battery is charged and discharged.

Here are the different types of batteries:

  • Nickel cadmium (NiCad) is used by many electronic gadgets like cell phones, computers, old motherboards, and cordless phones. It is a highly known rechargeable battery that loses its charge faster when it gets older. This is called the “memory effect.” This happens when the battery thinks it is fully charged but is not. For example, the battery thinks it is 100% charged when in fact, it is just say 70% charged. This will result to shorter gadget usage.  NiCad battery is made of nickel, in the form of Nickelic Hydroxide and Cadmium. Moreover, this heavy metal battery is not environmental friendly. If you are buying a new battery, look at the sticker. If it is not NiCad, then you do not have a problem.
  • Nickel Metal Hydride Batteries (NiMH) appeared in the market in the 1980s to replace the toxic NiCad batteries. Instead of cadmium, it uses hydrogen as its active element. It contains no toxic metals that makes it environmentally friendly, and has a higher energy density. Its capacity is more or less two times the capacity of NiCad. NiMH is also receptive to “memory effect” but in a lesser degree. It is more expensive than NiCad but it is more superior and good for our environment.
  • Lithium Ion (Li-ion) is the most common rechargeable batteries in newer laptops. Li-on is lighter compared to NiMH batteries and can provide an increase when it comes to the total charge capacity. This is good when it is crunch time. Compared to NiMH that automatically discharge 30% power in a month’s non-usage, Li-on loses 10% to 15% of its total power making it a better battery. This is the type of battery is ideal to be used in laptops and other mobile devices. The best part? It is environmental friendly.

Laptop batteries degrade, but you can do your part to make sure they last longer by following a few simple steps:

  • Make sure your laptop battery is in the right temperature. The guide is, when you are working and you are uncomfortable, your laptop is the same too.
  • If you are not using your laptop, make it a habit to drain your laptop battery from 40-60% once a week.
  • Make sure that you also discharge and recharge it once or twice year. Experts advise us to remove the battery when you plug in your laptop to avoid overheating.

Lessen the work your battery does. That is the key to a prolonged battery life. If you want to learn more, you can check out the tips on how to care for your laptop battery, and the guide on extending your laptop battery life.
